Welcome to our weekly catch-up.

On Wednesday, members of the Scottish Fire Service came into class to speak with the class to remind them how to keep safe this weekend if they are taking part in any bonfire or firework celebrations.

In numeracy this week, we have been looking at compass directions, bearings and angles.

Our Scottish Country Dancing is proceeding very well and this week we recapped on how to dance the Canadian Barn Dance and then learned how to dance the Military Two-step. I am so impressed with how good everyone is and just how enthusiastic they are for dancing. Excellent work everyone! We are hoping to have a Ceilidh at some point in the near future and are also looking into the possibility of having some parents join us for a wee bit of dancing!

Thursday was Outdoor Learning Day and despite the weather getting a little colder, we spent time outside sharing some time reading and problems-solving. The class were tasked with simply using a piece of string to recreate the outline of a world landmark. However, they quickly found out that the string seemed to have a mind of its own and move about as they set out the shape. Lots of fabulous discussions, problem-solving and team-work was evident on the best way to keep the shape looking as it should. If you’ve not yet had the chance to look through their handy work on Seesaw please have a look – the Easter Island Heads and the Sydney Opera House proved quite a challenge! And somehow Santa’s sleigh made an unexpected visit!

As part of our STEM learning this week we have risen to the challenge of the Kinross Air Race. The children worked together to create Dunfermline’s newest Airport. King Malcolm Canmore International Airport has started to be built in our wet bay area. Gates P7A and P7B handle both arrivals and departures. Flight training with our drone has continued and our Tech Team Elite Harry Dickson and Olivia Beal took the pupils through a drone flight training programme. On Friday the 11th, P7 will host Canmore Primary School's very first Air Show in the hall to a few of our younger classes.  Please ask your child about their role with invitations, flight training and all they have learned and experienced so far. Keep an eye on SEESAW for the highlights!

A huge congratulations to the P7 Hockey Team who attended the Hockey festival on Wednesday at the Pitreavie Sports Centre. All their hard work and resilience from last term paid off as they returned as Silver Medal winners. All those attending worked very hard conceding just two goals across all their matches. Congratulations also to Theo Newton who is this week’s Social Target winner.

Our China topic has come to an end and we will be beginning our new topic ‘Conflicts’ starting on Monday. We will begin by looking at World War 1. Earlier this week, ahead of the start of our topic, we looked at the meaning behind why we raise money for charity by buying poppies and why the minute silence on Remembrance Day next Friday will be observed in school. Please ask your child about their learning and about the meaning of the different coloured poppies you may see.

I hope that all of those who have been off this week are well on their way to recovery and I look forward to seeing them back, fit and well, next week. I wish you all a relaxing and restful weekend, and I will catch up with you all again next Friday.

Mr. Morgan.
