I hope that everyone had a relaxing October break and that you’re all feeling refreshed and raring to go for another term full of learning. We have started the term off with a busy week and looking ahead in our planner we have many more exciting and busy weeks to come.

The highlight of the week has to have been last night’s Halloween Disco. The class were just so excited to attend and on Thursday during the afternoon there was a real buzz around the room as they planned their costumes and looked forward to that evening’s fun.

Thursday was also the start of our new set of lessons on Scottish Country dancing. We started off with the Canadian Barn Dance and by the end of their extended PE slot many of the class could have been new contestants on Strictly Come Dancing. I hope you enjoyed watching the clip on Seesaw.

On Wednesday, again in PE, we started to focus on fitness and rising to the challenge of sending a team to the Sportshall Athletics event at the end of November. Everyone was trying really hard and there were lots of red faces and tired pupils by the end of the morning!

On Tuesday, in STEM, we had a visit from the Royal Navy STEM team who discussed how helicopters work and how the science of rotation and length of blade can help produce lift. The children were so full of enthusiasm to create and explore the properties of their own little mini helicopters. Many thanks to the team from the RN who were just brilliant!

In Numeracy, we have started looking at Coordinates. We all enjoyed a game of Battleships at the end of the week to show off our new skills. Please ask your child for a game!

In Digital Literacy, we started looking at how to take and edit a range of digital media. Our first lesson was on the use of the composition rule ‘Rule of Thirds’. If you are unsure of what this is, please ask your child about their learning and ask for a demonstration. This skill makes such an difference to taking a photo.

Can I just confirm that due to changes in availability of the hall that our new PE days for this term will be Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday we will focus on getting prepared for our Sportshall Athletic Challenge and on Thursday we will continue to learn to dance.

Finally, congratulations to this week’s Social Target winner Aaron Bayne and to those selected to represent Canmore at next week’s hockey tournament.

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend you all again next week.

Mr. Morgan.
