Here we are once more at the end of yet another very busy week in P7. It was lovely to finally catch-up at the two parent contact sessions this week.

In numeracy this week we have been looking at mental strategies for multiplication and the two-step strategy for multiplying multiples of 10, 100 and 1000’s We have also started to look at ways to simplify division calculations too.

In STEM, we had a virtual meet with the organisers of the Air Race Challenge to hear a little more about what we will be doing next. Prior to this we discussed possible careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.
We now have a mini drone in class, and we will be learning to fly this very soon. However, before we start to fly our drone, we’ve discussed how we keep ourselves and others safe by preparing a risk assessment. Please ask your child more about their STEM learning.

The week was rounded off with a class breakfast this morning organised by our P6 pupils in support of the MacMillan Cancer Research Charity. The class enjoyed sharing breakfast together and some even did a little yoga too. What a great way to start off the day and for such a worthy cause.

Next week we will have a visit from Carnegie Rotary Club to share more information on this year's writing, photography, art and environmental film-maker competitions. Also, on Thursday, Mrs Watt and I are looking forward to rounding off the term with a whole P7 cohort class lunch together. Pupils who are school dinners will eat in the classroom along with those who are packed lunches. It will be lovely to share a lunchtime together have some music playing and perhaps share some jokes too. We had a sample of some of those jokes on Thursday as we prepared to come back in after lunch and it was lovely to see the smiles.

Finally, congratulations to this week’s Social Target winners, Theo Newton and Chloe Kennedy, both of whom are very worthy recipients.

I hope that you all have a super weekend and I will catch-up with you again at the end of next week which will be our final day of Term 1 – hard to believe it’s almost the October holidays already!

Mr. Morgan.
