Welcome to Term 2

P7a are feeling refreshed and raring to go for another term packed full of learning and fun experiences. This week has simply flown by and we have many more exciting opportunities planned so please ensure you are connected to SEESAW to get the latest information.

The highlight of the week has to have been last night’s Halloween Disco. I was really impressed with the conduct of the pupils throughout the evening - lots of fun for everyone and a massive thank you to our PTA for ensuring the event was possible.

Other highlights include Tuesday's visit from our friends in the Royal Navy who discussed engineering careers. Pupils listened carefully to the visiting Helicopter Engineer to gain a better understanding of how helicopters work. This included the science of rotation and how the length of blade can help produce lift. Please speak to your child about what they have learned as they created and explored the properties of their own little mini helicopters.

In maths we have begun a series of lessons on position and movement. We revised our understanding of gridwork with a focus on coordinates across 4 quadrants using positive and negative positions. Pupils have been shown how to play Battleships and we discussed strategies to SINK an opponents fleet. Next week we will look at bearings, maps and then look at symmetry.

In Digital Literacy, we started looking at how to take and edit a range of digital media. Our first lesson was on the use of the composition rule ‘Rule of Thirds’. Please check your child completes their homework photography challenge.on SEESAW.

We are continuing to read the Nowhere Emporium. Daniel has joined Mr Silver as his apprentice and has begun to share his Wonders.  Our pupils wrote about their own Wonder Room and created a beautiful 'through the keyhole' illustration. I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did.

The greatest highlight for me this week was seeing the whole class together - so many happy, chatty and enthusiastic pupils. Everyone has started back with such a positive mindset and I look forward to helping your child with their learning..Our topic this term is Conflict and will focus on WW1 & WW2.

Congratulations to this week’s Social Target winner Calum McCreadie and to those selected to represent Canmore at next week’s hockey tournament.

Next week please remember GYM days are now Wednesday and Thursday due to hall allocation rotating between classes.

For your info:
We will be watching excerpts of Disney's film Coco on Monday as part of our class halloween themed lessons.  Pupils are welcomed to bring their halloween costumes in their bags to put on top of their uniform in the afternoon as P7 gets Spooky! Look out for their afternoon 'grammar giggle' as I will be teaching punctuation through halloween jokes - there are small prizes for the funniest ones!

Wednesday afternoon our P7s will receive a presentation from the local Fire Service on fire safety ahead of Bonfire Night. Pupils will also be part of a virtual Microsoft Teams meet with the STem Educators invovled with the Air Race Challenge.

A polite reminder to check your child has a change of shoes in their school bag. It was extremely wet this week and many children were unable to change footwear for indoor Gym.  Please support your child and check they are prepared for gym until they are able to manage this responsibility for themselves.

We still have P7 children uncertain of their lunch choices in the morning. Please get in touch with the school office if you require support selecting your childs lunch choices on ipayimpact.

Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs Watt & P7
