Great to share all the News from the last fortnight!
Delighted to announce P7 WON the Grand Prize in the Primary Air Race Challenge
We look forward to welcoming the organisers to the school next week to present the trophy, provide the pupils with their Young Stem Leader Awards (achieved through the completion of this project) and share details of the top prize. There has been lots of speculation about the prize on offer but due to the size of the cohort and our location there are still some details to finalise.

One part we do know for certain is that the P7 cohort will be playing an escape room with the Challenger Center in Maine USA.  This is part of their destination moon programme. A very exciting experience. Pupils also met up with Tim Peake for a question and answer session as part of Mars Day on March 7th.  We now begin a fortnight of STEM based learning so please ask your child about the experiments, learning and opportunities that they have found most rewarding - there will be plenty to choose from!

Further Congratulations go to many of our pupils following their participation in the Dunfermline Rotary Club competitions.

Following the judging in the club, the Young Photographers were placed as follows:
1st – Olivia Rose Beal (Club winner)
2nd – Josh Caldicott
3rd -  Ewan Lowrie
Highly Commemded - Charlotte Wright

Young Writers (Junior)
1st. Ishbel Smithson (Club winner)
2nd. Harry Dickson
3rd. Jake King
Ishbel’s entry has been forwarded to the District competition

Young Writers ( Intermediate)
1st. Josh Caldicott
2nd. Rachel Collins
3rd. James White.

The whole staff share their congratulations and wish them the best in the District Rounds. These pupils and their families are automatically invited to the Youth Celebration Evening on Tuesday 16th May at 6.30pm in the Vine Centre Dunfermline. The District results will follow next month - good luck Ishbel and Olivia.

Further congratulations go to our P7 pupils in maths who recently competed in the United Kingdom Maths Trust intermediate category.
Josh Caldicott received a silver award, Luca Corneanu Bronze and several other pupils received participation awards. Well done to all involved. Josh has received an invite to compete in the next round as his score was impressively high for his age. He will be competing at a level close to National 5/Higher - the whole cohort wishes Josh the very best success in the event next week.

Our final congratulations go to Calum McCreadie our social target winner this week!

In other news our reading of Goodnight Mr Tom has reached Chapter 17 if you are following along at home.  Our focus on explaining reading comprehension will now shift onto vocabulary as we explore using skills of deduction and inference to support the understanding of unfamiliar words in a passage. Our word detectives will need to solve the answers using contextual clues which will support pupils in their first English lessons in S1.

Look out for the latest showcase of your child's learning on SEESAW - so much new and interesting learning as we head into the final (busy) weeks of the term.  I look forward to catching up with of you at parents evening - the appt booking system has now closed but please phone the office if you are still looking for an appointment and we can hopefully fit you in.

Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Watt & P7A
