Happy New Year wishes to one & all and a very warm thank you for all the generous gifts, cards and well wishes over the festive fortnight.  The P7 classroom felt full of energy and happiness today as we made our start to 2023 together at Canmore Primary School.

In writing, P7A have created their learning targets for the term. We looked back at what had been achieved in terms 1 & 2 and looked forward to the term ahead.  We spoke of S.M.A.R.T targets and what the acronym stood for.  Pupils have been encouraged to concentrate and apply themselves to achieve their full potential in their penultimate term here at primary school. Please discuss these with your child to help support them reach their goals.

Continuing the theme of personalised learning and individual unique-ness in our STEM lssons this week we explored the unique-ness of each pupil's fingerprints. It was fascinating to many pupils as they investigated and examined the detail in each other's fingerprints. Please view your child's work on SEESAW.

In Project this week we have developed an understanding of UK defences during the Blitz. Your child has worked with a group to create model Anderson Shelters - we hope you like their creations!

PE times this term will be on Wednesday and Thursday. Our focus is on performing Scottish Country Dances with the whole P7 cohort ahead of the Scottish Country Dance Festival  on January 27th at Dunfermline High School (this event is during class time and more details will follow soon.).

Please can you ensure that your child comes to school with a spare change of footwear in their bag suitable for wearing in the gym hall. Weather continues to be wet and cold and it is helpful for children have a clean pair of shoes that they can wear which will not bring mud or grit into school. Wet shoes have made the multi-use hall and cloakroom floors/ stairs a little slippy at times and we have discussed basic safety and care in these areas. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Term 3 homework grid will be put up on SEESAW on Monday.  Please continue to help your child with their home learning. This week there is a focus on preparing for the Canmore Burns Poetry Recital as we explore Scots language in more depth.

Congratulations to Malcolm Bell who received the social target award this week. Well done Malcolm

Next week we hope to welcome the Royal Navy Chef Jaffa in on Friday to demonstrate cooking with rationed supplies. This links to lessons throughout the week on rationing and the concept ' Digging for Victory'. We have set the pupils a home cooking challenge that requires supervision and support from an adult to complete so please look out for these in their bags on Monday - we will be sending home some home grown veggies to get creative with!.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and please remember to contact the school office if you seek support using ipay Impact.

Packed lunches & school dinners can be booked 3 weeks in advance on the system and these are to be selected at home to allow lessons to start sharp - (we currently use about half an hour each week choosing or making changes to lunches in class times which has an impact on the start of the school day.).

Looking forward to a happy and busy term ahead

P7A & Mrs Watt.
