What a great start to our new school year. Our P7 pupils have brought their best versions of themselves to the classroom this week and clearly demonstrated their positive mindsets.

Our pupils have quickly settled into their expected daily routines. Seated in mixed ability friendship groups they begin each day with play based learning following a quick registration and lunch check-in. The cohort look very smart in their school uniforms and as a wee reminder P7 ties can be purchased from the school office for a small charge of £5.50

In our writing this week we explored vocabulary and the way we can engage a reader when focusing on uplevelling sentences to include rich descriptions.  Pupils were given a good sentence and support to unpick and improve the quality of the text.  I was impressed with their imaginations and hope you were too - please comment on your own child's work on SEESAW - I am certain you will be as impressed!

In our number work we have looked at our times tables through play and pupils have been encouraged to hop over to SUMDOG and play reinforcement games regularly.

In gym this week we have begun to learn about carpet bowls. As a cohort we headed down the field for a warm up mixed team game of rounders before setting up the hall. Pupils are required to change their shoes for indoor gym so please help your child remember this until they are in the routine.

On Friday we had a lot of fun exploring STEM through a paper aeroplane  design challenge in connection with Aero Space Kinross. More info here Schools Air Race Challenge 2022 – Aero Space Kinross  Some pupils asked to take their prototypes home over the weekend to improve and test. Please support your child with their designs and return them to school on Monday -  as we will select ONE from each class on Monday and submit their entries.  Good Luck!

We look forward to developing our pupils interest in STEM careers throughout the session.

Over the next few weeks our stem lessons will link to our China topic as we explore the landscapes, the Pacific Rim, Volcanos, Tsunamis, Earthquakes and much, much more! Its going to make you wish you were in P7 with us!

In Modern Languages we began our focus using French Language. Pupils created french fortune tellers to learn through play!

In ICT we checked SEESAW, GLOW and SUMDOG logins were working. We have a very digitally literate class and I am delighted to share that our school received our Digital Schools Scotland Award at the start of the summer. Myself and Mr Morgan can't wait to strengthen the cohorts coding, animation and digital media skills over the course of the year.

Homework will start again next week. It will be issued in the Activities section on Seesaw each Wednesday for submission via Seesaw by the following Wednesday. A homework grid format has been adopted from which one activity is to be chosen each week. (there are more choices than weeks in the term to provide lots of choice to our pupils)

An additional, separate, numeracy activity will also be issued on Seesaw. Please remind your child to check their Seesaw Activities each Wednesday and oversee their submissions.

As new activities are issued any outstanding ones will remain available to pupils until they do them so please dont worry if you have a busy week as you can complete the activities at a later time. Canmore PS encourages extra-curricular activities attendance, values family time and wants to support our pupils in a flexible and helpful way.  I hope this all sounds reasonable!

Well done to Luca from our class and Emily, Lydia and Charlotte who represented the class as part of the Against Speeding Campaign. They joined Police Scotland officers on Aberdour Road earlier in the week to highlight to passing motorists that they should slow down around our school for the safety of our children.

Congratulations to Alexander Fellows and Ava Bowman our social target winners this week.

Enjoy your weekend.
