Welcome to our weekly update. I heard one of the class mention yesterday that they were surprised that it’s 18 days since the New Year. Can you believe that it’s the end of week 3 of our term already!

This week in Art we have been developing our skills using shading and colour value to change shapes into 3D forms. We have some super budding artists with many pupils really pleased with their artwork. We are currently working on creating a drawing of the iconic Scottish snack – the Tunnock’s Teacake. We shall finish these soon and post them to Seesaw for you to see the finished piece.

And on the subject of Scottish icons/events, next week will be Burns Day and I have asked the class to focus their homework time on preparing their poetry recitals ahead of selection on Thursday. Please can you remind them to submit their recording on Seesaw by Wednesday at the latest. Please help your child learn their poem.

We will mark Burns Day on Thursday by sharing a small treat of Irn Bru and, of course, some Tunnock’s Teacakes.

We have had three visitors to class this week. On Tuesday, Mrs Aitken, the Depute Rector of Dunfermline High School, came to class to meet with our whole P7 cohort to share information and answer questions about DHS. This is the start of a few transition events for our P7s. Please keep an eye out for information coming from DHS about upcoming information evenings too.

On Wednesday, Mr Nick Grew from HSBC Bank shared a presentation with us about how to keep our finances safe online and how to look out for scams and signs of fraud. The class were very interested and asked lots of super questions.

On Thursday, Mrs Baxter returned to class to help everyone learn the songs that we will be performing at the Fife Festival of Music on the 30th of January at the Vine Centre. She also shared that we will be opening the show – no pressure!

In numeracy, we have been continuing to consolidate our skills in long division. In literacy, we have been discussing how to develop a convincing persuasive argument. We will continue with both of these subject areas next week.

In our Topic, we have been learning about the British Expeditionary Force’s retreat from France in 1940 and about the evacuation and rescue of over 338,000 troops from Dunkirk. Next week for topic we will be discussing the Holocaust ahead of next Saturday which is Holocaust Memorial Day. Please be reassured that we do approach the subject sensitively.

Both classes joined together to learn about personal milestones this week and all P7s have been reminded/requested by the Yearbook Committee for a baby photo to be uploaded to Seesaw for their page within this year's P7 Yearbook.

Congratulations to Megan Fraser who is this week’s Social Target winner. I hope that you all have a relaxing weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
