P7 Update

On Thursday, during our STEM lesson, we created Trench Periscopes like those used by soldiers in WW1 to help them see over the Parapet (The name for the top of the trench facing towards the enemy from which I’m sure came the phrase – ‘don’t put your head above the parapet’).

Throughout the week in our literacy and topic lessons we have been learning what life was like for the soldiers who had to endure life in the trenches. The children were quite moved and shocked by what they have learned about.
We are now up to Chapter 4 of our class novel, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, and the story continues to grip the class with many desperate to find out more from the book and the film.

In ICT we have been learning how to share our SWAY’s and continue to learn about features of emails.

Our P7 football team had an ‘away fixture’ on Wednesday at Masterton PS. And despite the very one-sided final scoreline I was very proud of those who represented Canmore from across the cohort as they demonstrated resilience and determination – well done all!

In PE this week we had a much more gentle form of exercise as we have learned about how to play carpet bowls.
Due to Nativity rehearsals and the limitations for outdoor learning experiences due to the changing weather conditions, can I now request that children come to school dressed in school uniform Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our PE slot for the remainder of this term will now be on a Friday afternoon. Those attending sporting clubs after school can continue to come dressed ready for those.

On Thursday the 30th, children are invited to come to school wearing an additional item of tartan to help mark St Andrews Day.

Congratulations to this week’s Social Target winner, Isobel Clark, a very worthy recipient.

I hope that you all have a relaxing weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
