It has been another very busy week in P7 where we have been doing a wide range of learning activities.

On Monday, we had a visit from Dunfermline Athletic Football Club’s ‘PARS Stars in the Media’ where we learned all about what it takes to write a good media article. The class worked hard on both their writing skills and their talking & listening skills as they had to prepare for a media interview. The class also learned some really interesting facts about the history of the club and about Dunfermline through studying the club badge. Pupils found this very interesting.

On Tuesday, many of the class attended the West Fife Hockey Festival at Pitreavie Indoor Centre. Canmore were fortunate enough to be able to field two very strong teams. One of our teams came third overall, narrowly missing out on being in the final by a single goal. The organisers commented that in the 20 or so years they have been running the event that the semi-finals and finals were the most closely contested matches they had seen. Both teams worked very hard throughout the day and were a credit to the school. Very well done to those that attended from P7 across the cohort.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on our haunted house stories that pupils have been writing where they have combined what they have learned in grammar such as connectives, similes and metaphors. They also looked at using the traffic light system in paragraphs to help structure their sentences and how we put this into our story writing. Pupils are writing some fantastic stories.

On Wednesday, we looked at how to make a sudden story twist using the traffic light system and we had a visitor join us for this lesson who was very impressed with the standard of writing and really enjoyed their visit to P7 and Canmore Primary School.

In Numeracy, we have moved on from addition to subtraction where pupils are working very hard and are keen to challenge themselves further. It’s been great to see pupils’ enthusiasm for their learning.

On Thursday afternoon we had visitors from UHI Perth who come into school to do a STEM activity with the class. The pupils had to design a way to protect a delicate egg falling from a height. They really enjoyed this and there was lots of good teamwork going on, which was great to see.

A quick reminder to please keep an eye out for any email and messages from school regarding next week and what that will entail. At this time, the school could possibly be closed next week on Wednesday the 8th due to planned industrial action. The school will also be closed to pupils next Friday the 10th for an In-Service Day.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Miss Hunter
