As the new P1’s are becoming more and more independent as the days pass, the P7’s spend less time with them and today was a super chance for some quality time together. This afternoon the class enjoyed some time outside helping to support their P1 buddies with their outdoor learning and some games.

On Thursday, for Health & Wellbeing, we had a visit from Barnardo’s who came into class to discuss drug use and how it affects the body. The discussions around caffeine in particular was interesting. Please ask your child about their learning.

In numeracy, we have looked at quick recall of our x8 table and discussed the importance of learning it to the point of automaticity to help support other learning.

In literacy, our work continued on vocabulary building for when we create narrative stories and in reading comprehension we studied how to more fully answer a question using a helpful strategy.

In Art, we continued working on our dragon art and how to place it in a context. We also used this dragon artwork as a stimulus for their writing. Well done everyone, the quality of what you were producing was impressive!

For our topic work this week we have been looking at all things earthquake! What causes earthquakes and what they do in Japan to be prepared and stay safe. Did you know that they have over 1000 earthquakes a year and that schools have earthquake drills in the same way that Scottish schools have fire drills! What a different world!

Congratulations to Abigail who is this week’s social target winner for demonstrating good manners.

This Tuesday afternoon Douglas Hill will be in school running hockey tester sessions and P7 pupils have the opportunity to attend an after school hockey club. Please contact the office should you wish your child to attend the after school club 3-4pm.

On Friday afternoon next week we have some pupils and staff from DHS coming to work with the children and to demonstrate touch rugby. Please note that this means that pupils should come to school next week on Friday dressed down and ready for sport rather than their normal Friday school uniform day.

Finally, our pupils are really excited about the Reconnector this Monday as it will be time to vote for House Captains, Vice Captains and House Ambassadors.  Pupils have been asked to prepare a speech to promote themselves and their House, which will be followed by a pupil vote. I wish all the pupils the very best with this task!

What a week its been weather-wise so fingers crossed for more of the same over the coming weekend. I hope that you all have a lovely weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
