A minute silence was held earlier today to mark Remembrance Day and the whole class were very respectful. Throughout the week the children have been strengthening their understanding of why we mark Remembrance Day in this way, the significance of the poppy and of the importance of the Scottish Poppy Appeal. This has linked into the start of our new topic on ‘Conflict’.

As part of our topic we will be looking at BBC bitesize clips A-Z - available here World War One A to Z - BBC Teach Please review these clips with your child as some scenes may be potentially upsetting due to the nature of war but we try our best to ensure materials used are limited and controlled.

In literacy this week, we looked at the WWI poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae studying the meaning behind the words and the imagery that the poem uses. We also had a grammar lesson on the use of speech marks where we used a chapter from our class novel, The Nowhere Emporium, as inspiration for a fictional conversation between the two main protagonists. If you have been reading the novel too, I hope you have enjoyed it, its one of personal favourites.

Another highlight of the week was the P7 Air Show where we shared our new STEM skills and knowledge with younger members of the school. This is’ Lead’ part of the Air Race Challenge 2022 where we ask our pupils to lead the learning to their peers. What a super afternoon!

On Thursday, you may have noticed that your child may have brought home sample narrator scripts for this year’s P1 Nativity. Auditions for this part will begin on Monday, so if your child is wishing to audition for the part please can you help support them to prepare. Mrs Davie has indicated that expression and clarity of speech are perhaps the more important elements of the audition as pupils will have the script to read from during the audition  – so no need to remember it all at this stage.

Congratulations to Chloe Kennedy who is this week’s Social Target winner.

I hope that you all have a restful and relaxing weekend and I will catch-up with you all again a little earlier than normal next week. Please remember that next Friday will be an In-service day and pupils will not be attending school on the Friday.

Have a super weekend!

Mr. Morgan.
