Friday once again! This must be the quickest term ever! It was great to catch-up with many of you this week during Monday’s and Wednesday’s parent contact sessions, and I look forward to speaking with more of you on Thursday too.

The week has been full of learning with much of it related to our class novel War Horse and to our show ‘Rock Bottom’. The class have produced some wonderful literacy work linked to the novel and, as always, are just so enthusiastic about preparations for our show. What a great cohort!

In literacy this week, we have looked at developing both our reading comprehension and writing skills. Looking carefully at character development in our class novel by identifying supporting evidence, as well as looking at how to include emotions within our stories ensuring that we also include topic specific vocabulary to set the writing within a specific time period/setting.

The class were shocked earlier this week as we looked at rationing during WWII in a little more detail. The quantity of permitted rations was really brought home to them when we looked at the actual size of some of the items (2oz of butter (48g) per adult per week) which looked about enough to spread on a couple of slices of bread and that was it! Next week we will move onto America’s entry into the war.

And on the subject of food, our French Breakfast was a huge hit on Monday with the class enjoying speaking and ordering their food in French – well worth the effort for a Pain au Chocolat or a Croissant.

On Friday, we enjoyed some more science and looked at how to create a power cell using coins and washers to try to power a bulb. The class are just so engaged in their work. I’m certain we have a number of engineers of the future in our midst. Part of Friday was also spent looking at careers too.

On Tuesday, some members of the class took part in a Rotary Club quiz. All teams did very well indeed with some very high scores. Well done to everyone who took part in the teams or helped to support the running of the event itself.

On Wednesday of next week we have a visitor from HSBC coming to class to discuss aspects of finance with them.

Congratulations to Katie Lyall who is this week’s social target winner.

I hope that you all have a wonderful but relaxing weekend.

Kind regards,

Mr. Morgan.
