P7 Update
It is just amazing to find ourselves at the end of the first full week of Term 3 already. So much has happened!
The highlight of this term’s learning has been our STEM activities. Last week, we had a little learning all about Crime Scene Investigation. We focused on improving our observation skills, fact-finding and evidence gathering. The class had to look for clues from a ‘break-in’ in Mrs Watt’s classroom to try to work out who the culprit might be. They also studied their own and the suspect's fingerprints. A great morning was had by all.
Today, the class looked at how to communicate using morse-code and flashing lights. This will link nicely to our future STEM learning about electrical circuits and the Enigma Code within our topic.
Our new topic of The World at War has started, and the class have really enjoyed learning about WW1, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the outbreak of war across Europe and about life in the trenches. We will only spend a week or so on WWI before moving on to WWII.
Our Art this week, or should I say crafts, was to create a trench periscope. A vital tool in the trenches of WWI.
In Digital Literacy this week the class have started to learn how to use Wordpress with GLOW to create their own website. We have looked at how to create a test website as well as looking at which theme to use. Next week we will look at how to add pages and images. Everyone is very engaged in this new learning.
Also new is our learning in modern languages. We have started to learn French this week by learning how to introduce ourselves and to then to ask how someone is.
Our Junior Sports Leaders enjoyed some training this week from our Active Schools Co-ordinator Alex Bird who commented how enthusiastic they all were and keen to learn.
I’d like to finish with a few quick reminders if I may. Firstly, homework was issued on Tuesday and the first presentations are due in by Tuesday the 18th. Homework is to prepare a short presentation of around one to two minutes in length with the learning focus this week being on presenting at the correct volume. A grid of presentation subject choices has been posted on Seesaw which are all related to our new topic of The World at War. Secondly, our Robert Burns poetry challenge was also issued at the start of the week. P7 pupils are to choose a burns poem to recite in class on Friday the 21st of January. This is not an optional task and all pupils are expected to perform. Please assist them at home by choosing an appropriately challenging poem and by helping them prepare. Three poems have been added to Seesaw.
The top four form the class will be selected to go forward to the next round and to recite to Mrs Howie and Mrs McIntosh. The overall class winner will also go on to present at their Reconnector on Friday the 28th. Lastly, any applications to join our Yearbook Committee should be posted on Seesaw or handed in on Monday. Sorry, a final lastly, deposits for our residential trip to Dalguise Outdoor Centre should be handed in by Monday too – the class are just so excited to go!
Finally, congratulations to Jack Allday who was this week’s Social Target winner. Well done Jack!
I hope that you all have a relaxing and safe weekend.
Kind regards
Mr. Morgan.
