P7 Update

Another super week comes to a close in P7 but what a way to finish!

The class helped recognise Children in Need day today by coming to school ready to sleep – or at least that was the way that they were dressed – in their jammies! The class successfully used their growing persuasive skills to come to an agreement that they could extend the theme of Friday’s dress-down day to come in their jammies. No sleeping happened in class, we were all too busy learning and having a little fun too.

In Literacy, their learning in persuasive writing this week was on how to use repetition of sounds and phrases. They continue to impress me on how effective they are becoming when writing to persuade. Well done P7.

In Numeracy, some of the class were looking at accuracy of measurement and some of the class were working on long division. Everyone worked very hard on their learning.

In Digital Literacy we continued our series of lessons on how to create and edit digital media. This week’s composition theme was on close-ups and ‘filling the frame’ with the image to help identify a focal point. I hope you have enjoyed seeing their work on Seesaw. I have also started to create a gallery in our classroom to display their best work. Those whose work has been put up so far were very proud of their efforts and growing skill.

As this week was ‘Anti-bullying Week’ the class were very responsible and respectful in their attitude during any discussions and activities related to bullying and the use of kind language. As well as having odd-sock day and talking about how it is ok to be unique, we looked at how a positive, growth mind-set can be a powerful factor in their health and well-being.

Homework presentations are continuing superbly well. Talking and Listening is an important part of the curriculum and I am definitely seeing their growing confidence when presenting transfer over to other parts of their learning. This week’s focus was on the use of eye-contact.

In the run up to Christmas (yes, I know it is still November, but it was just so nice to see such enthusiasm during a Christmas activity), on Thursday, the class must have got the Christmas bug as they enjoyed a spot of dancing along to some Christmas tunes. The clip is on Seesaw if you have not seen it yet!

In our topic work we looked at a behind the scene type of video blog which helped compare Japanese schools to Scottish schools. The discussion and debate that it prompted was just amazing! The consensus of opinion was that we have a much nicer learning experience in Canmore - but I think we’ve always known how good Canmore is anyway!

I hope that you all have a safe and relaxing weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
