P7 Update

It has been a wonderful week in P7. The weather was just super on Thursday for our Outdoor Learning Day. And for me, that was the highlight of the week. The class loved being outside and learning all about our environment. We are so fortunate to have such a great outdoor area full of open-spaces and trees. The class enjoyed identifying the wide range of trees we have by studying and categorising their leaves.

Thursday afternoon was an explosion of colour as P7, P6/7 and P4 joined together outside in our playground to create Rangoli patterns. Wow! What amazing teamwork and artwork. Thursday was the start of Diwali and as part of the Festival of Light celebrations Rangoli patterns are widely used outside the entrances of homes to welcome visitors. It seemed very appropriate to combine our learning about Diwali with our outdoor learning to welcome any visitors to Canmore. We hope you enjoyed seeing them from the railings if you came to collect your child from school or online in Seesaw.

In Literacy, we have started to look at persuasive writing techniques. We started by looking more deeply at what it means to persuade and how we go about building a persuasive argument. The class had a great time on Wednesday trying to persuade Mrs Howie, the JLT and myself to agree with their viewpoint. Some of the points raised were very convincing.

In Digital Literacy, we have continued to look at creating and editing digital images. This time we have tried to combine our use of the composition guide ‘Rule of Thirds’ with portrait photography. We definitely have some budding photographers in class as the standard of work is just great. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing their work on Seesaw. I’ve also added a few photos to this news item for you to enjoy.

The travelling Book Fair is coming to school next week and P7 have a slot to go and look at what books they might want to buy. If your child sees a book that they like they will come home with a ‘wish list’ form for you to look at their choices. If you wish to purchase a book you can send in money in an envelope or follow the instructions to order online. Our slot is on Wednesday the 10th in the morning, so look out for any forms in bags on Wednesday night.

Lastly, if you are heading out to an organised event, or planning your own firework celebrations at home this weekend, have a great time but take care and stay safe too. Have a super weekend everyone. Remember to get some rest, ready for another super week of learning ahead next week.

Mr. Morgan.
