Good afternoon everyone.

What a busy week we’ve just had and it was lovely to finish the week with a catch-up with some of you during our last parent contact session of this term.

Christmas came early to Canmore this week and the class have enjoyed creating their card designs for you to preview and order if you wish. Please check their bags if they have not already given it to you to look at. Please return their work on Monday for sending off to the printer next week.

Our STEM learning this week linked with our Japan topic. We looked at volcanoes from around the world and linked this to Mount Fuji in Japan. As it has been dormant for over 300 years we looked at more recent eruptions elsewhere in the world. Our STEM Challenge is to create our own model volcano. We have started to create this using paper and PVA glue. Next week we will discuss chemical reactions and make our volcanoes erupt!

In Numeracy this week, we completed an assessment on the order of operations and multiplications and division of multiples of 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s. The class did very well.

In Literacy, we looked at how we use metaphors and the difference between them and similes. The class enjoyed listening to some popular songs and looking at the lyrics for examples of metaphors.

Our Digital Literacy skills are continuing to grow and the quality of our video production is clearly improving each week. Using video production to showcase learning in other areas is a great way to embed knowledge as well as being a fun way to learn.  I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of their efforts on Seesaw.

I hope that you all have a relaxing and safe weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
