Dear parents and families,

This short week has been very productive. The children are in full flow organising their Macmillan Big Breakfast for next Thursday morning (29th September). Primary 6 will host the fundraiser that will provide all the children in the school with a breakfast and fun exercise session for a donation of 50 pence each. Three pupils will attend the infant’s reconnector on Monday to promote it and posters have been made to go into each class.

We have been developing our skills in note-taking from factual texts in literacy, as well as during our research of landmarks in ICT. We learnt all about Edinburgh Castle in our reading comprehension too. In numeracy, we’ve been consolidating our place value knowledge and working with numbers up to and beyond one million.

Miss Graham taught the class about the plague in Edinburgh in the 1600s, in which the children drew comparisons with Covid times. The plague doctor and his mask were of particular interest to the children.

Our ‘Jeans for Genes’ Day was good fun with a great turn out of pupils in denim and dress down. There were various activities to promote our awareness of genetic disorders and how we can come together as a school to offer support to people in need. These included us taking 6000 steps to promote awareness of the 6000 genetic disorders that exist today.

Thank you to those who have attended parent contact. I look forward to our meetings next week too.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Brand and Mrs Elvin
