Dear parents and carers,
It is wonderful to have the children back in school and eager to learn.

This week we welcomed Mike Nicholson, the author of our class novel ‘Catscape’, into our classroom. He discussed where ideas can come from for stories and novels, read the next part of his novel and inspired the children to co-create a character in writing. Mr Nicholson was impressed by the children’s wonderful use of language.

In numeracy we have been learning about percentages and how the whole amount always equals 100%, and that our knowledge of fractions can help us work out what percentage a proportion of the whole is.

For STEM, we created mini witches’ hats and compared how aerodynamic our different designs were. Following that, we welcomed two professional pilots and an engineering professor on an online meet up, to hear them discuss their professions. Visits, such as these, help the children understand ‘The World of Work’.

We have just begun our Outdoor Learning sessions during which we will work towards ‘The John Muir Explorer Award’ on Thursdays. This learning covers a wide variety of subjects with a constant focus on literacy. Today we were learning about how trees act in Autumn in order to survive.

The Halloween Party was great fun and it was brilliant to see so many turning up in costume.

‘Happy Halloween’ weekend.

Best wishes,

Mrs Brand and Mrs Elvin
