A great week of learning in P6/7 this week with lots of learning and fun being achieved by all.

In ICT our pupils continue to complete their Microbit Coding tutorials and we are beginning to see how these skills can be applied in sustainable careers such a Wind Turbine Technicians / Engineers.

This linked to our STEM focus and the next part of the Climate Smarter Competition; designing and testing floating platforms which then allowed them to understand the principles behind floating wind turbines and the reasons why the North Sea is a great resource for wind farms.

Our STEM project also challenged the children to build the tallest free-standing land wind turbine structure and to be mindful of the cost of resources (pupils were limited to 5 sheets of A4 paper and some glue.) Both classes worked well together in their groups with lots of problem-solving being very evident. The tallest structure was well over 1m tall and many had rotating blades. The children have told me they now better understand the function of the turbine on the Pitreavie industrial estate and I'm delighted to see their progress.  These are the 10th out of 12 challenges to be completed and the focus now moves onto their Eco Gardens.

P7s have planted seeds and will complete conservation at Ardroy. P6 will take part in planting activities next Wednesday afternoon.  Our class will receive their Young STEM Leader 2 awards assessed by SSERC when they complete all the aspects of this project.

In Art this week, we explored the colour wheel and various media in design. Pupils were given time to explore primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary and contrasting colours. Lots of photos on SEESAW of their marbling art and blending work.

In Literacy we wrote instructions for tying a tie and will move onto directions. In Maths we have completed our activities on fractions, decimals and percentages with clear progress made by all.

In topic, P7 have continued reading about the life of Anne Frank and we explored rationing and the Battle of the Atlantic. Tesco kindly donated bananas and we learned more about its place in the war.

Thank you to everyone who has donated books for this years World Book Day Book Swap. P6/7 were invited to wear pyjamas to celebrate a little early and they all have a book in their tray. Great to see the enthusiasm for reading in our school.

Congratulations to our social target winners this week.

Good Luck to our P7s as they head off to Ardroy next week! Fingers crossed the weather is kind. Have Fun!

Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs Watt
