Friday again! I can hardly believe how fast the term is flying in.  The children have made incredible progress and are working extremely well together - our classroom is like a happy hive with busy bees all leading their learning!

Many pupils have been asking for homework so I have set an activity on SEESAW linked to similes - have a little fun with this! Homework will formally begin in Term 2 via SEESAW.

In our topic we learned about a special day in the Japanese calendar " Children's Day".  I hope your Koinobori Kites survived the storm! and that your child has shared some facts about this very special festival.

Our Steam models were tested to see who would 'beat the flood' and whilst many withstood the rain it was a very soggy and wet ending for most structures.  Pupils enjoyed the planning, creation and evaluation of their projects.

Next week we will be focusing on group collaboration skills to create model volcanos using paper mache then simulating our own lava flow using red food colouring, bicarbonate of soda & white vinegar. Keep an eye on SEESAW for the videos! (we would welcome any old newspapers for the paper mache and large, clean, empty plastic bottles for the structure so please ask neighbours/friends/family etc to gather up and send them in with your child for Tuesday to allow us to quarantine them before use.)

In our number work pupils practised subtraction skills and furthered their understanding of time. In our writing we continued descriptive techniques using metaphors and adjective phrases to describe the aftermath of a violent eruption.  BBC Newsround has been reporting on the Cumbre Viejre eruption in Las Palma and the pupils have found the stimulus fascinating to write about. Please talk to your child about what they have been learning.

We have focused on healthy and positive choices this week and all pupils have completed a daily food and exercise diary.  We will be looking at what small changes that can be made to our lifestyles next week to improve our overall wellbeing. On Thursday and Friday, we enjoyed the chance to support MacMillan Cancer Research through a fantastic Fun Day organised by P6 and a Race for Life event.co-ordinated by the Junior Sports Leaders. Lots of happy, cheerful faces at home time.

Pupils have shown their competitive side in PE this week with a few sessions of indoor carpet bowls that were gifted to the school to use.  They have really enjoyed playing on the full size practise mat and handling boules whilst learning about the game. A new and interesting experience for the children.

Congratulations to Weronika Trebicka our social target winner this week.

Further to our healthy choices lessons I would like to invite pupils to a special class breakfast at 930 next Friday.  Pupils will use disposable bowls and spoons
cereal on offer will be cheerios, shreddies and rice crispies. (all within covid guidance) I will be eating with them modelling healthy choices. Please let me know if you wish your child to opt out this activity will last 15 mins approx.

Enjoy the weekend.
