Welcome back & Happy New Year!

Our cohort have started the year on a fantastic first foot by returning full of happiness, energy and enthusiasm.

Our class have been talking about learning targets this week and pupils should all be able to tell you where they are with their literacy and number work so please ask them what they are learning and their next learning steps to achieve their term targets.

Excitement has rippled through the cohort as we began our new topic on World Wars and conflict. P6s will focus on WW1 and the P7s WW2.

Our science lesson on morse code helped the children learn about code breaking and communication in the wars and we have begun to look at electricity circuits as we begin a series of lessons linked to the SCDI Young Engineers and Science Club Scotland projects on sustainable energy.

Pupils have been giving homework to complete Tues-Monday on SEESAW.
The focus is on learning a scottish poem (p6) and a Burns Poem P7 to perform in class for Friday 21st January. This is not an optional task as all pupils are expected to perform however uploading a record on SEESAW is one way this can be achieved if your child feels presenting to an audience daunting. (please speak to your child about developing their skills if this is the case.)

In addition to the Poetry Recital pupils have been taught how to project their voice confidently and focus on appropriate volume during a presentation.  All pupils have been asked to deliver a 1 minute presentation on a subject of their choice (literally anything!) demonstrating their progress with this skill and I look forward to hearing everyone on Tuesday.  Please support your child with this task and check they are ready to present on their chosen subject matter.

We have begun reading War Horse by Michael Morpurgo and looked at the cover, author's note and blurb. We will read Chapter 1 next week - please follow along as the chapters are uploaded to SEESAW.

SEESAW continues to be a fantastic communication tool for the pupils to use to share their learning steps.  We are looking for parents to comment on the progress for their child to see - it is so motivational when the children can see parents are looking at and enjoying the work they post - so remember to check in regularly.  Some pupils have no parent comments at all and if you require help with how to add a comment (or this feature isnt working well for you let me know and I will see if I can help.)

This term our modern language focus is FRENCH.  Pupils have been practising how to introduce themselves and give polite salutations so please ask your child to share with you what they can now say and do.

Our Junior Sports Leaders completed in-school training with Alex Bird from Active Schools and enjoyed learning new skills.

Congratulations to Cari Forbes our Social Target winner this week.

Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs Watt
