For Maths this week we have been learning to subtract. We have been consolidating our knowledge of the standard written method of subtraction and using a blank number line to mentally subtract by using our place value knowledge to partition numbers. We were also making our own 3D shapes and using their nets. These were Christmas themed!
For Literacy, we have been continuing our learning on figurative language by writing words and phrases to describe characters from our novel George's Secret Key to the universe by Lucy and Stephen Hawkings. We discussed how the words we use to describe the characters can be synonyms and antonyms. We use a thesaurus to help us to find words that are synonyms and antonyms. We used these describing words to create a character description that included similes and metaphors.
For Outdoor Learning, due to weather we stayed inside.  We learned about UNICEF outright campaign that encourages pupils to learn about climate change. The campaign encourages children to learn about the UNCRC articles and to share their thoughts about climate change. The campaign asks children to use their right to share their thoughts freely (Article 13) to write a Good Luck card to the UK Minister for Energy Security & Net Zero who will be attendings COP28. We wrote messages to the Minister to ask him to consider children's rights when attending COP28. These will be put together in a good luck card.  We will attend an online event on Monday afternoon for National Children’s Day linked to the UNICEF Outright campaign.
We also started a leaf experiment where we are learning how water travels through a leaf. We have put some leaves into water with red food colouring. We will continue this learning next week where we will look at the result of our experiment.
In Enterprise, we started creating our Christmas crafts. Some pupils started producing our Sock Snowies and others were making a poster to advertise them. They are very cute!
Thank you,
