What a busy week in P6!

This week we have been showing our writing skills by writing our own space story using a picture to stimulate ideas. We have been writing a narrative text that tells a story to entertain the reader. We have been trying to include an engaging title, a clear structure, connectives, sequence words and descriptive language.

In numeracy we have been learning about place value, we completed a place value assessment and have started to looking at reading and writing large numbers. We will continue our work on reading and writing numbers next week.  We have also been learning about measurement. The children completed a pre-assessment and we discussed units of measure this week. Next week we will look at converting units of measurement.

For gym on Wednesday we started our Run Club. We will be developing our stamina, flexibility and improve our fitness through different running activities including, jogging, running games and sprinting. On Friday afternoon, we will be starting netball. This week we are looking at working on our throwing skills.

As our topic this term is Space we chose a novel to read based on a space theme. The class has chosen ‘George’s Secret Key to the Universe’ by Lucy and Stephen Hawking. We look forward to reading the story and taking part in literacy activities linked to the story. We also looked at the planets in our solar system and will continue to look at each planet in more detail next week.

This week we also made birthday cards for our class so that we can celebrate everyone’s special day throughout the year.

Just a reminder that gym days are Wednesday and Fridays. Please send your child in PE kit that is suitable for outdoors and also indoor gym shoes in case of heavy rain.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Elvin, Mrs Forrest & P6
