Weekly Update P5/6

We have been working really hard in Primary 5/6 this week. As part of our Numeracy and Mathematics, we were looking at different written strategies for adding decimal numbers. The pupils were then applying these strategies to plan their dream week long holiday by adding up the cost of different foods, accommodation and activities within a budget of £2500.

In Literacy, we continued to practise spelling words that end in an -s or an -es suffix. The pupils also explored the characters from the 'Nowhere Emporium' by taking on the role of these characters and filming an interview where the pupils questioned them on their role and the magic that they had experienced. The pupils used story dice in their big writing to create a new collection of spooky stories. Pupils were practising using short shocking sentences to surprise the reader. They were also building tension and suspense through the use of an ellipsis and through their descriptions of a character's emotions.

In Science, we began to look at the makeup of the inside of the human body and discussed the role of the different organs in keeping our body alive and healthy. In Art, the pupils were designing their own door monsters for Halloween. The pupils created a variety of large scary creatures that were lurking behind suspicious doors.

In ICT the pupils were completing their Powerpoints which debated whether the internet was a good or a bad thing and began writing up their spooky stories using text effects and imagery to present their story in a spooky manner.

If they haven’t already done so, pupils are also required on Monday to return their reading book that they were given as part of Big Book Brains quiz.

Well done to P5/6 for another super week and I hope everyone has a good weekend.
