It has been a busy end to our first term in Primary 5/6. Earlier in the week the pupils worked really well with Primary 2 when we went to read them our stories that the pupils had created for them during Big Writing. The class read very expressively and had created a number of fantastic illustrations which combined really brought their stories to life.

In literacy the pupils were also creating a chapter analysis for the Nowhere Emporium and justifying what was good about the chapter and how it could have been improved. The pupils were also learning about personification and they applied their understanding of this to create acrostic poems describing different objects and places.

In numeracy we looked at multiplying and dividing decimals and whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 in variety of different scenarios including a large chalk talk out in the playground. We also started looking at addition and subtraction which will be our focus after the holidays. In mental maths we continued to improve our speed in recalling our times table facts.

As part of our digital literacy topic we were looking at the design process and discussed how different technology is created and then why it changes over time. The pupils then started a design challenge where they were challenged to design a spaghetti bridge that could cross a 45 cm gap and hold the weight of a bag of sugar. Pupils were also combining their skills from the previous weeks in ICT to create and code racing games.

In Spanish we continued to look at numbers and colours and started practicing different phrases for greeting people and asking directions. Pupils were also listening to Spanish phrases through the BBC program Mi Vida Loca.

Hope everyone has a wonderful October break!
