Weekly Update Week 6

Another super week in Primary 5/6.

During Literacy this week, we were completing a character analysis for the main characters in our class novel, 'The Nowhere Emporium'. The pupils then considered what questions they would ask those characters if they were to meet them. As part of our Spelling we were creating riddles using our spelling words and in Big Writing we began to look at different styles of poetry. The pupils created Tankas which are short Japanese poems containing 31 syllables where the pupils were imagining the objects within our classroom coming to life.

In Numeracy, we started looking at decimals and multiplying numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. Within our mental maths we continued to practise our times tables through a number of dice and white board games focusing on the times tables that each pupil identified they most wanted to improve in.

In our Digital Technologies lessons, we were writing the second draft of our imaginative children’s stories that we are preparing to read to Primary 2 and looking at how to format a word document, how to spell check our work and how to place a boarder around our finished piece. As part of our Digital Literacy work,  we also looked further into how to be safe on the internet and discussed the dangers of sharing different types of personal information on the internet.

In Art, we were creating our own creatures or monsters. A number of pupils chose to use Pokemon as inspiration. We were considering where each creature might live and the importance of each of their different features.

In Science, we had a look at bones and the skeleton to continue exploring different aspects of the human body. The pupils then created their own working models of the human hand which they have brought home to show you in their bags.

Have a super weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday.
