Week 4 P5/6 Update

In Literacy, we have been learning how to create interesting openers to our writing. We looked at some examples of some good openers from popular novels and then the pupils created their own openers to a detective novel. As part of our big writing we were also trying to guess what was inside a mysterious case left in our class by the magnificent Doctor Sorrodran Zaltora.

For our project work, the pupils created some super presentations about the internet in the style of the television show Dragons Den. The pupils were pitching the idea of the internet to someone from the past. During our ICT time, pupils were also creating lines of code to create their own collection games.

Our class novel is the Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie as well as predicting what will happen in future chapters, in Art the pupils were designing new covers for the book and thinking about what their own magical shop front would look like.

In Maths, we are still looking at Place Value. We have been using our knowledge of place value to begin to help us round numbers to the nearest hundred, thousand and ten thousand which we went outside to practise in some team relay maths games.

Just a quick reminder that pupils received their first homework yesterday. Pupil are expected to complete one activity from the spelling sheet and one activity from the reading sheet each week and then return their homework every Monday.

We also had a visit from the Big Book Brains Quiz. Each pupil has been issued with one book which they must return on Monday the 23rd to swap for a new book. As part of the quiz over the next 6 weeks, the pupils will get the opportunity to read 5 different books which they will then be quizzed on at the end of the 6 weeks.

Applications were also handed out to pupils that were interested in joining the Canmore Digital Tech Team. Those that are  interested should return them to me as soon as possible.

Have a great weekend!
