P5/6 Update

The highlight for this week has to be our sports day on Thursday morning. The weather was kind to us as we had just got back into school when the heavens opened with a downpour. The class enjoyed taking part in the range of sports and mini-events on offer as well as being super competitive for the flat races. Lots of effort and sportsmanship was on display. Well done P5/6! I hope everyone at home also enjoyed seeing the photos we shared on Seesaw. And a special mention from me has to go to Caleb who entertained me with his Praying Mantis pose whilst waiting on his turn. Great dancing too Caleb.

On Monday, we completed our bug hotels and on Tuesday afternoon we selected some quiet out of the way locations around the school grounds and carefully placed them for the insects to find as their new home. We will check back in on them in a few weeks to see how they are getting on. That afternoon we had an outdoor lesson too where we discussed about all of the types of wildlife, big and small, that we might find around Canmore.

On Wednesday, we turned into detectives to try to solve the 454-year-old unsolved murder of Mary, Queen of Scots’ second husband. We used written clues, crime scene drawings and witness statements, as well as our reading comprehension skills, to try to solve the question of ‘whodunnit’?  Theories and accusations were flying thick and fast throughout the morning but ultimately, we too came up with no firm answer – but we did have fun and learn lots in the process.

Missing out on our investigations was Isla and Teagan who instead helped some of our Junior Sports Leaders record and edit a competition trailer for a school competition. Mrs Watt was particularly impressed with their technical skills using greenscreen. Their work was shared with the school at reconnector earlier today. Very well done girls.

I hope that you all have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
