Week 3 Update

It has been another super week in P5/6 and the class are continuing to settle very well.

In Literacy, we have looked at how the use of adjective can enhance a story and we have continued to work on improving our listening comprehension skills. I must also say that handwriting is already starting to look better even though this is only week two of our focus on it. Our class novel, ‘Born to Run’ by Michael Morpurgo, has prompted many wonderful class discussion about the life of racing greyhounds and the novel is really catching their interest.

In Numeracy, we have been working on faster recall of times tables and class assessments have helped many to identify where they need to improve. This will be an ongoing part of our numeracy work throughout term one.

In ICT this week, we have started working on our PowerPoint branching stories using the hyperlink feature. Children are to create a story that has multiple options (or branches) of how the story could unfold dependent on reader choices. They were very engaged in this and lots of problem-solving was evident, especially if they did not plan ahead. We have also been looking at how to take and edit images as well as discussing composition.

Our PE days will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child comes prepared for outdoor activities on those days. An extra pair of dry socks in their kit might come in handy as sometimes the grass in the field can still be a little wet at times.

Lastly, a quick word about the school Tech Team. An activity has been sent out via Seesaw for any members of the class who wish to submit a note of interest in joining the team. Anyone interested in becoming a new junior member of the team should complete the activity and send it back to me.

I hope that you all have a relaxing and safe weekend.

Mr. Morgan.
