P5/6 week 3

This week in literacy we continued to learn about imaginative writing. In preparation for their big writing the pupils created their own up to date similes and an awesome adjectives word wall. We then focused on using powerful adjectives and similes to create more interesting and engaging pieces of writing.

We have continued to look at place value in maths. The pupils created posters showing their understanding of place value by writing seven digit numbers in Standard Form, Word Form, Expanded Form and Base ten Form.

In science this week we began our first science topic looking at body systems and cells. The pupils conducted an experiment to test each other’s reaction times to see how quickly they could catch a 30cm ruler. We calculated that on average in our class pupils would let the ruler drop 17.5cm before being able to catch it. We then plotted our results on a bar graph.

In art we began looking at continuous line drawings with a focus on creating detailed sketches without lifting our pencils from the paper. Pupils were also given the opportunity to finish their Pointillism pictures from last week.

As part of our digital literacy topic the pupils started creating leaflets to guide others on how to be safe online and in ICT the pupils had a go at coding their own short animations using the Scratch coding website.

I have included pictures of the pupil’s pointillism pictures and the pupils hard at work coding their animations.

Another great week well done P5/6. I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday!
