Welcome back to term 4. I hope you all had a relaxing holiday enjoying the very Scottish weather we had. The children have settled back into the school routine very well, although I have to say there have been some very tired faces towards the end of the week!
This term we will continue to have a big focus on literacy, numeracy and health and well-being. In literacy we are going to have a strong focus on reading and will be doing an author study. We are also starting a block of imaginative writing and this week we spent our time planning the next adventure of Polly and Pete, the super spies. The children have come up with lots of wonderful, fun creative ideas for this, and we will be writing up the adventure next week. I am really looking forward to reading these exciting stories.
In numeracy we have started our topic of fractions, and have been making the link between division and fractions through bar models. We also made the most of a lovely sunny morning and finished off our topic on time by taking part in some fun outdoor timed activities, practising our skills in timing using stopwatches, and recording times.
In health and well-being we will be supporting the return to school by resuming the work we started before Christmas on Bounceback, and we are also going to be looking at how to cope with everyday emergency situations.
For the time being there will be no weekly homework grids as the focus is to have the children settle back into school. The good news, however, is that we are able to resume sending reading books home. These will be sent home on a Thursday, and your child will have their own copy of the book which is not shared with anyone. It will be stored in their own polypocket. This should be returned to school on a Monday morning in the polypocket, as we will aim to read in class on a Tues, Wed and Thurs.
If you would like extra spelling or mental maths for your child they can access Sumdog at home and work on the activities in that.
I know that several children are really looking forward to seeing relatives and friends that they have not seen for a while now that the travel restrictions are changing this weekend. Whatever your plans, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
