Good afternoon
This has been a busy, and exciting week in primary 5. We are excited to learn about our new classes and teachers for next year. Although we are not moving on as a whole class, and this is perhaps a little disappointing for some, we will be spending the remainder of the term making sure we are ready to move on to primary 6 and focussing on all the positives that next year has in store.
In numeracy we have started on our topic of angles. We met the angle family, who helped us to recognise and name the different angles, and we then went on to recognise the angles in a compass. We have been practising facing in different directions and turning clockwise and anti-clockwise through different angles.
In literacy we have been learning how to punctuate direct speech – this is quite a tricky skill, with lots of rules to learn but we are making good progress with this. We have also been continuing with our class novel – and every day we are so keen to find out what happens next.
In science we have been working on our Bright Sparks challenge. We have been hard at work building our designs and testing them out. We had to do a lot of problem solving along the way but have proved we can be creative in our thinking.
The biggest highlight of our week was our trip to Calais Muir Woods. This was part of the ‘Journeying’ element of our Natural Connections Award and we had to plan our route taking account of hazards and risk spots. We followed our route carefully and arrived safely at the woods. While we were there we had a great time sound mapping, den building and bug hunting. There were a lot of tired bodies on the way home, but we had a fantastic day out and thoroughly enjoyed our adventure despite it being a little wet to being with. Once again, a big thank you to all our parent helpers who helped make this adventure possible.
Next week will be our last week of homework for the year, and as we are finishing off our reading books, some children may have reading but others may not.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
