Good afternoon

It has been a fun packed week of jubilee celebrations in primary 5 this week. As this is such a once in a lifetime historical event we felt it was worth celebrating in style.
Although we have been having lots of fun, we have also been learning about the Queen and the Jubilee too. We learned about the way in which the Union Jack is designed to include the flags from Scotland, Northern Ireland and England, then faced the challenge of creating some Union Jack chalk bunting in the playground.
In PE we had fun playing some traditional playground games that the Queen might have played when she was little. Spud was a big favourite, and we also had a go at Sevensies and skipping – both of which proved a bit of a challenge, needed some resilience, but were fun to have a go at.
In writing this week we practised our formal letter writing skills by writing a letter to the Queen and designing and making some fabulous cards to send it in. Fingers crossed she might find some time to reply to our letters after she has finished all her celebrations.
The Great British Bake Off showstopper challenge allowed us to display our creative skills. We designed some fabulous cakes and then created our amazing jubilee themed cupcakes – and enjoyed every last crumb while watching The Queen’s Corgi. A huge well done to Fiona, who created one of the winning designs with her fantastic pearls and crown design
After enjoying watching The Queen’s Corgi, our STEM challenge this week was to design and build a luxury kennel for a corgi. We displayed lots of good teamwork skills and came up with some very interesting, creative designs to give our corgi puppy a comfy home.
The biggest highlight of the week was our Jubilee party. Everyone looked fabulous in their red, white and blue and we had a great time playing lots of jubilee themed games together.
All in all, a fun week of learning and now we are all ready for the Jubilee weekend. I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the holiday.
