Good afternoon

This week we have started our new topic on information handling and we have been learning different ways of collecting and displaying data. This tied in really nicely with taking part in The Big Plastic Count, as we are collecting the plastic we throw away at break time and counting it for a national survey. We have discovered that crisp packets are definitely our biggest plastic throw away in Primary 5.
In Literac,y we are getting very involved in our class novel, and we have been learning all about open and closed questions. We are really keen to find out more about the mysterious Ahmet, who we now know is a Syrian refugee, so in our writing we practised our formal letter writing skills by writing to Mrs Hemsi (Ahmet’s PSA) to ask if she could tell us more about him. The narrator of our story is desperate to be friends with Ahmet, even though he already has a close circle of friends so we have also been exploring the idea of friendship, what it means, and what qualities we look for in a friend.
I am pleased to report that last week the number of children with a suitable change of shoes increased … by 1. That is still 4 children without a change of shoes. Given the weather we had towards the end of last week, it is quite a challenge for us to deal with this. It takes time to try and find a suitable change for these children as we cannot have them trailing mud all over the carpets, and we cannot guarantee that we will have anything in their size. So, can I please reiterate the request that children come to school with a change of shoes on Field Good Friday?
On Monday the school photographer will be in school all day. For this reason, all children should come to school in school uniform. THERE WILL BE NO P.E ON MONDAY.
We are all really excited about our trip next Tuesday to Fordell Firs. Please ensure that all children come to school that day wearing suitable outdoor clothing and have a waterproof jacket with them. They will not have to wear this if the weather is nice, but they should ALL come with one in their schoolbag just in case. As we are returning to school around 2pm all children will need a change of shoes for the afternoon in school.

Have a lovely weekend
