Good afternoon
I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. The children have all returned from their break full of enthusiasm for the new term, and have quickly settled back into their school routine. On Monday we welcomed Miss Swainson to our class, and she will be working with us for the next 5 weeks. Already she is very impressd with how responsible and respectful the children are.
This week we have started on our new numeracy topic of fractions, and have been learning about the link between fractions and division through using arrays and bar models. This has really helped improve our understanding of fractions of amounts. We also realised that we need to use our times tables yet again in this topic! Please keep working on practising these at home - in class we have been practising the 7 times table this week.
In literacy we started our new class novel 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'. We will be using this novel as a basis for both literacy and health and well-being work this term.  We also spent time consolidating our understanding of similes, and working on improving our similes through creating more descriptive comparisons. Some of out efforts were certainly very creative.
We had lots of fun when we started our new science topic "Bright Sparks' this week. We had a great time making electrical circuits that would light bulbs and buzzers, where we had to show good thinking and problem solving skills as well as resilience and perseverence.
In our outdoor learning we were working on the 'Journeying' section of the Natural Connections Award. This involved taking part in fun games involving following compass points and following directions. In preparation for these games we were learning to improve our skills in giving directions by programming Bee-bots, coding and creating directions for toy characters to follow.
I can confirm that our PE days for this term are still a Monday and a Wednesday, and we will be continuing with our Field Good Fridays, so children should come to school dressed appropriately on these days, with the remaining days being school uniform days.
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Haddow
