Good afternoon,
Primary 5 have been working very well on their new topic of division in maths. This week we have been reinforcing the link between division and multiplication, and we have been learning to divide by 10, 100, and in some cases 1000. We are starting to look at different strategies for division, and began by using the chunking strategy, and we will continue to practise this strategy next week.
In literacy we are continuing to develop our skills in writing newspaper reports. The ace reporters in primary 5 were very busy writing book reports on World Book day last week, complete with reporters notebooks for note taking. We have also been looking at developing our sentence building skills through using commas to add extra information into our sentences. I have been very impressed with how quickly the children learned this.
Our Field Fridays are still very popular with the children and they show lots of enthusiasm for each new task. This week we were working together to make mini scarecrows to put in our garden area once we have done our planting. They really are too cute! Combined with the bird chimes we made last week, we hope to keep the birds away from our seeds and seedlings. Spring is definitely on the way!
