Good afternoon
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend last week, despite the rather wintry weather we had.
The children have settled back into their school routine very well. This week we have continued with our work on learning strategies for multiplication. They have learned both the partitioning strategy and the grid/cross method. Most children have expressed a preference for a particular strategy and it has been lovely to see them challenging themselves to multiply bigger numbers. Please do continue to practise times tables with your child at home any time you have an odd few minutes, as although the children are showing good understanding of the strategies taught, a number of them are realising the errors they are making are simply due to mistakes with their times tables.
In literacy we are starting to learn how to write newspaper reports. This week our focus was on identifying the techniques reporters use to create interesting, eye-catching headlines, and we were exploring how to write and structure a good newspaper report. Next week we will link our report writing to our Wars of Independence topic.
We had great fun yesterday when Active Schools delivered a handball taster session. The children picked up the game very quickly and worked really well on developing their ball skills and their teamwork. A letter has been sent home giving details of handball sessions at Dunfermline High School should you and your child wish to pursue this further.
Next week Canmore will be taking part in World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. We will be taking part in a range of book related activities, and the children are invited to come to school dressed in their pyjamas/onesies for some cosy, relaxed reading. We will also be running a book exchange within the school, and we are asking for donations of any books that your child/ren may have outgrown or are finished with. Please bring them to school from Monday to Wednesday, so that they can be sorted ready for World Book Day on the Thursday.
I hope you have a lovely, relaxing weekend.
