I hope you enjoyed seeing all our photos on Seesaw of last week’s Field Good Friday activity where we were challenged to build a bird’s nest out of natural materials. This was by far our trickiest challenge yet, however I was very impressed with the resilience and creativity the children showed, and after a slow start we successfully built a variety of different bird’s nests.
In numeracy this week we have been finishing off our topic of time by calculating durations. Next week we will start on the topic of multiplication. We have begun work on practising our times tables in class and this is something that you can help a lot with at home. Children need to ‘know’ their times tables, not just be able to work them out, as so much maths work from now on depends on them knowing their times tables. Please help your child by regularly practising their tables at home. This just needs to be a few minutes at a time, and can be practised at odd moments such as standing in a queue, during a brief journey in the car, out walking the dog etc. Your child should be able to talk to you about which tables they need to practise.
In literacy this week we have been developing our understanding and use of similes. We have identified and created our own similes in literacy, and in writing we created some simile poems about a Wild Unicorn. I have to say I was very impressed with the creativity the children showed in creating appropriate, effective similes. Their poems are very powerful in their imagery.
I hope you enjoyed viewing the children’s photography on Seesaw. This week we were focussing on capturing images from interesting angles. The children really engaged well with this activity and took some stunning photos. They loved seeing how changing the angle you took a photo from could have such an impact on the result.
I hope you have a super weekend
