Good afternoon
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas, and that you managed to enjoy some family time together. The children all appear to have had fun and to have enjoyed their holiday.
They have settled back into our class routine very well, although there have definitely been quite a lot of tired faces by the end of this week as they adjust to the early starts once again.
This week in numeracy we have started on the topic of time, with a focus on reading clocks. This is a life skill, and is one that you can reinforce at home by asking your child to read any clocks that you see in your environment e.g in shops, around the house, in the car etc.
In literacy we have started our new class novel, Guardians of the Wild Unicorns. This is a relatively new novel, based in Scotland, and is full of excitement, drama and cliff hangers. I absolutely love it, and am really looking forward to sharing it with the class. It’s Scottish theme links in very well with our new social studies topic of The Wars of Independence, which is our history based topic for this year.
As you are aware, the children have all started to learn their Scottish poem for our annual Scottish Poetry Competition. They have been very enthusiastic about wanting to practise in any spare time they have. The poems have been posted on Seesaw, and you can support your child at home by helping them to learn it off by heart, and listening to them recite it clearly.
Next week, spelling and reading homework will start, and will be posted on Seesaw on Monday. In PE on Mondays we have started a block of work on gymnastics. It would be very helpful for health and safety reasons if all children could avoid wearing any jewellery on these days, and if anyone with long hair could bring a bauble or similar to tie it back.
I hope you have a fun and safe weekend
Mrs Haddow.
