Primary 5 have had another very busy week of learning. This week we have been continuing to work really well on our Natural Connections Award by developing our skills in reading maps and keys. We practised these skills by using maps to create silly faces using PE equipment – I’m sure you will agree our faces looked amazing when complete.
In writing we have completed our set of lessons on writing character descriptions by writing about the characters we created using natural materials in outdoor learning last week. The children have become much more confident in their use of descriptive language to describe a character’s appearance and behaviours, and had some very creative ideas for their characters.
In social studies we have been learning about the journey of the cocoa bean from farm to supermarket (as a chocolate bar). We have been considering the costs and the environmental impact involved in this journey. The children were surprised to learn how little the actual cocoa farmers earn, for the hard work and time taken to grow and harvest the beans.
As it is anti-bullying week we have been considering what bullying is and what forms it can take. We have also been focussing on kindness and considering what forms that can take and how sometimes it takes very little effort or time to be kind but it can have a huge impact on others.
Today we have had lots of fun dressing down for Children in Need day. The children have enjoyed designing colourful bandanas for Pudsey and had the opportunity to Guess Pudsey’s Birthday. This was such an appropriate end to our week focusing on kindness to others.
I hope you have a fun weekend,
Mrs Haddow
