It may have been a shorter week this week, but primary 5 have continued to work really well in all areas.
Our focus this week in our Roald Dahl study was on themes, and we explored in detail a number of different themes that appear in his novels, such as power, family, transitions and food/drink. The children made some interesting and thoughtful contributions to discussions about these, showing some really good thinking skills. In writing our focus is now on story retell, and the children all retold the legend of Bruce and the Spider making it sound very dramatic and inspiring ... a story they can now pass on to you.
In numeracy we started our topic on money and the children are working very well indeed on this topic - especially considering so few people and shops are using cash at the moment! Next week we will be exploring the concepts of budgets, credit and debt.
In ICT we are all ready to start our final filming of our animations, and we shall be very busy producing these next week.  We have also been discovering how clever our Scottish ancestors have been when it comes to planning and preparing for battlle and learning that you can still succeed even when the odds are stacked against you, if you take time to think and plan carefully.
One big highlight of this term has been working towards achieving the John Muir Challenge Discovery Award, and this week we finished off the award by completing the last challenge. Today we became nature detectives, looking for signs of summer and photographing them. The children have all worked so well to succeed in all the challenges set and I am so proud of their enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork.
As the children have worked so well on this Award, and as the term is slowly coming to a close, a special treat has been organised for next Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes dressed in outdoor gym kit and a waterproof jacket ready for some team building outdoor fun activities organised for us by our active schools coordinator.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend
