It has been lovely to chat with so many of you this week at our Parent Contact sessions and I am looking forward to speaking to the rest of you on Monday. It is slightly different doing it over the phone and not being able to see you but there have certainly been less technical glitches doing it this way.
This week has been a positive week of learning in Primary 5. I am sure some of your children will have been telling you that we have started several assessments, just to find out where exactly they are in different areas of their learning and what their next steps should be.
We have also had time to fit in lots of fun activities too. Yesterday we finished our Science topic on 'Electricity and Forces' by learning to build series and parallel circuits. We had great fun creating circuits with combinations of buzzers, lights, fans and switches, and it was so lovely to see the look of delight on their faces when their circuits worked. So, if a bulb blows in your house they should now be able to tell you what type of circuit the bulb is on.
We also completed our Spy Adventures in writing, and the children engaged really well in writing these and making them as exciting as possible.
In Health and Well-being,  our focus this week was on learning how to cope with things that happen in our lives that we cannot control or change. We all developed our own happy places, either real or imaginary ones in our heads, that we can visit at these times to help us feel better.
Today was the first day of our John Muir challenge and we were very busy working out how to measure the real height of trees. If you are out for a walk this weekend you could ask your child to show you how to do this.
Next week we do need a pine cone for each child, so if you are out walking and enjoying the fresh air and spot some pine cones lying on the ground, please do pick some up and send them to school with your child so that we can quarantine them before we use them.
I hope you have a lovely, relaxing weekend.
Stay safe and take care
