Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. The children all seem to have had a lovely time and have clearly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
We have settled well into the new term, and the children appear very enthusiastic about the year ahead. We started the week by making one or two new year resolutions for the year ahead - and all of the children chose well.
This week we have started our new social studies topic. This is a history based topic on William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and The Wars of Independence. Although it is a history topic, the subject of Independence is still very relevent to today.
In maths we have started on our topic of time. It would be very helpful for your children to encourage them to tell the time and to ask them questions such as 'How long is it till swimming/gymnastics/Brownies start?'  'How long is it till we leave for school?' etc.
Homework, as you will be aware, is to memorise and practise reciting a Scottish/Burns poem. These are  in their homework bags this week. Again you can support your child by listening to them practicing their poems, and encouraging them to use expression and actions.
For your information, our PE days have changed to a Monday and a Thursday this term and all children should have PE kit in school on these days.
I hope you have a lovely weekend
Mrs Haddow
