Good afternoon,
Well, a huge highlight of this week was definitely World Book Day yesterday. The children were so enthusiastic about all of our book day activities. The annual book swap was a huge success. Mrs Watt had managed to source hundreds of books and along with all the wonderful donations from the children, this meant that the children could choose around 5 books to take home and read. What a brilliant way to encourage children to read and to give them the opportunity to try books they might not otherwise choose.
After the book swap we watched Terry Deary talk to us about his Horrible History books, including The Revolting Romans. We did really well on his quizzes as we have been learning so much about The Romans this term. We followed this with our own fun book quiz based on childrens book titles, authors and characters.
The children had lots of fun and were very creative building their reading dens, and they decorated biscuits with 'Creaker' faces ready for the afternoon. After lunch we all had 'A Snuggle, a Story and a Snack' in our reading dens. Lots of the children took the opportunity to start reading the books they chose at the book swap with their juice and biscuit.
Finally we were learning to do 'Freeze Frames' in drama. We created freeze frames of some of the exciting scenes from our class novel and the children showed great teamwork, creativity and imagination to make these. All the plushies, teddies and cuddly toys made a great audience and loved the experience.
All in all it was such a lovely day celebrating books and reading in Primary 4. Look out for pictures of all the fun on Seesaw.
This week we have also been learning to divide by 10 and 100 in numeracy. In writing we have started learning to write formal letters, as we wrote to The Creaker King asking for the return of the Whiffington parents. In social studies we were learning about the very clever tactics used by the Roman army and in ICT we are continuing to work on adding text to slides in our PowerPoints.
Next week we look forward to Red Nose Day on Friday, and I look forward to meeting with some of you at our first parent contact session on Tuesday.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend
