Happy New Year to you all!
I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas and New Year break. Primary 4 have settled back into the school routine well, and this week we have welcomed Miss Anderson into our classroom. Miss Anderson will be with us for the next 4 weeks, and she is enjoying meeting and working with our lovely class.
This term we have started our new social studies topic on 'The Romans' and the children have created a plan of what they would like to learn during this topic. We are very excited to learn more about the Romans, their way of life, their army and their achievements.
We have also started practising singing in earnest for the Fife Festival of Music. We will be performing on Friday 2nd February in the morning, so you might like to try and keep this date clear in your diary. More details will follow once we get them finalised. Mrs Heggie and I were so impressed at how well the children have learned the words for the songs, and now we are busy improving the finer details of our singing. We have been so fortunate that Mrs Baxter has kindly agreed to come into school and support us with this. She came in yesterday, and the children were thrilled to see her and work with her again.
All of the children should have brought home the calendar that they created for 2024. Their weavings were looking fantastic, and all very different. This was an activity that took a lot of time and patience, but the children enjoyed learning to weave- and were delighted with the end result.
All the children had their Scottish poems posted out to them on Seesaw on Monday with an explanation of what they should be doing for homework. They should hopefully have just about learned their poems off by heart by now, and next weeks focus should move towards reciting the poem with expression and actions. The children will be asked to recite their poems to the class in the week beginning 20th January, and 3 finalists will be chosen to recite their poems to Mrs Howie on 25th January.
All children should have brought their reading books home this week, and they should be returend to school on Mondays. Our spelling grid and homework will start up on Monday, so look out for that on Seesaw.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy a rest after our first full week back.
