Good afternoon,
My goodness, it has turned chilly as we reach December! The excitement was definitely building for the start of December this week - with lots of anticipation of elves arriving, advent calendars starting and Christmas decorations going up.
That was not the only excitement in Primary 4 this week though. On Monday our chocolate factory was at work again. This time we were making Fairtrade chocolate lollipops with a Christmas twist, to sell on our Fairtrade stall at the Christmas Fayre. The smell of chocolate was making our mouths water as we made and wrapped our chocolate treats.
The Eco Elves also voted on their favourite logo design for our company. There was lots of wonderful creativity shown by the class in this task with voting being very close. The winning design can be seen below and I'm sure you will agree it is very eye catching.
All our Enterprise groups have been very busy on their respective tasks and they are working hard to make our Eco Elves stall a success. I am very impressed with the enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork shown so far.
It was lovely to see all the touches of tartan on show on Thursday to mark St Andrew Day. In class we celebrated the event by learning about the life, and death, of St Andrew. We then completed some fun activities, and enjoyed sampling some shortbread and Irn Bru to the sound of some Scottish background music.
In numeracy we have been learning to use the extended addition strategy, and applied this to some word problems. We did so well with this strategy that we have now started to use it to subtract.
In literacy we have done so well with our target of using interesting sentence openers that we have started a new target of using conncetives properly in our sentences. We are now working hard to write more complex sentences by using these in our writing - and we have to remember to keep using interesting openers and to write in properly punctuated sentences. Phew! What a lot to remember!
Next week we are looking forward to the summer fayre. All children are invited to wear Christmas jumpers and/or accessories on the day if they wish to. Due to the Christmas Fayre taking place there will be NO Field Good Friday next week.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend ,
Mrs Haddow
