Good afternoon,
I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing holiday and enjoyed the break from the usual routine.
This week the children were very excited to learn that our new topic is 'Chocolate and Fairtrade.' We got off to a wonderful start with a visit from a real life Willy Wonka. Some of you may know Gwen, who runs Heavenly Goodies and often has a stall at our school events. Gwen explained about the 5 different types of chocolate, and gave the children a taste of each type. She then explained where chocolate comes from, and shared some interesting facts about chocolate and her job. Finally, the children got to roll their own chocolate ganache ball in cocoa powder or icing sugar and package it up. As you can imagine, the children absolutely loved this experience and are very excited to learn more.
In literacy we have started our class novel 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and we will be basing a lot of our literacy work this term on our novel. We have been also been learning to recognise and use adverbs this week.
To link in with our project, we have started a new numeracy topic on money. This week we have been recognising and counting money, using the strategy of starting with the largest value coin/note. We have also introduced a shop into our free play so that we can role play and practise working with money as we buy items and give change.
To finish off our Dunfermline topic we are planning to go on a trip to the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum and the Carnegie Library on Tuesday 7th November. Information about this will be shared next week, so please look out for the letter in your child's school bag. We will be looking for parent helpers to come with us on the day, so if you are available to help please let the school office know or message me on Seesaw. The trip is a morning trip and we should be returning to school around 1pm.
Please look out for our new homework grids for this term which will be posted on Seesaw on Monday.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and make the most of the extra hour!
