Good afternoon
I hope you have all had a good week. Primary 4 got off to a fantastic start this week with our Jeans for Genes Day presentations at our reconnectors. Our presenters did a fantastic job, speaking clearly and confidently to our school community. They shared our plans for Jeans for Genes Day as well as explaining what Genes are, and what the Jeans for Genes charity does. Our teams of presenters had great support from our IT teams who worked the technology, including a PowerPoint and video clips. Our advertising team also put their colourful posters up around the school for both parents and pupils to see. All in all, a great team effort by P4.
This week in social studies we were learning about the growth of the weaving industry in Dunfermline. As well as comparing our lives today to the lives of the children working in the linen mills, ( and realising how lucky we are in comparison) we had a go at weaving ourselves. The children have been so enthusiastic about this, and their weavings are looking very impressive.
In numeracy this week we were looking at ordering numbers. Some of us were learning to round numbers, and using this skill to work out approximate answers to sums. This is quite an important life skill and one that you can practise at home in real life situations.
Today, Jeans for Genes Day finally arrived! We looked amazing in our denim outfits, and we had fun having a denim disco, designing our dream denim outfit and taking part in the side by side challenge. Entries to our design a denim outfit competition are looking very impressive, and we will have the challenge of judging these and selecting winners on Monday. We will also announce the amount of money raised on Monday, once this has been confirmed. Look out for the big announcement!
Today your child will come home with their Christmas Card design in their bags. If you wish to order cards etc. please do so online and RETURN THE CARD DESIGN TO SCHOOL by next Friday (29th September). The printers need the original design to copy!
As the school will be closed next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be moving to three days of remote learning. The work for the class will be posted on Seesaw each day, and there will be three activities per day. One will be a numeracy task, one will be literacy and there will be one other task. All activities will be reinforcing and consolidating work done in class in order that the children can work as independently as possible. Please do what you can, when you can, if you can.
I hope you have a super weekend,
Mrs Haddow
