Good afternoon
Here we are at the end of a short but very busy week of learning in Primary 4.
In Numeracy this week we finished off our topic on time by learning to calculate durations of time. Some children were working on time challenges or 'brain work' as one of them called it, which did make me laugh. Next week we start our new topic of information handling, but please keep encouraging your child's awareness of 'time' in their everyday lives so that they can keep practising the learning they have been doing.
We had lots of fun designing and creating our own germs and viruses last week, and this week we have started to create some fun picture stories using these. Through our stories we hope to spread the message of how to avoid catching illnesses or diseases by stopping the spread of nasty germs and viruses.
In Literacy the children have also been busy planning and preparing a class talk about their favourite book. They have had time in class to prepare them and they will present them to the class next week. Some children might appreciate your help in practising their talks at home - I know several of them chose to take their talks home to practise.
A big highlight of our week was our annual sports day on Thursday. The children took on the various challenges of the potted sports, with some being very creative in their approach, and they showed good teamwork and resilience with these. In the races, the children were all very supportive of each other and it was so nice to see the wonderful sportsmanship shown when the races resulted in some draws.
Next week we are really excited about our trip to Fordell Firs on Tuesday. Thank you so much to all the parents who have volunteered to help - if I have not contacted you it means that we do not need your help on this occasion (we are restricted in our numbers by Fordell Firs).
IMPORTANT NOTICE : All children should come to school on Tuesday dressed in long trousers and a long sleeved top, suitable for outdoor activities. This is to comply with Fordell Firs health and safety regulations. They should also have suitable trainers and a waterproof jacket, a sun hat and sun cream, their packed lunch and a water bottle. Those children who have inhalers should have these with them too.
Many thanks for your continued help and support.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Haddow
